El Clúster MarCA destaca Santander Teleport como un complemento exclusivo para la industria marítima de Cantabria

Las empresas del Clúster Marítimo de Cantabria – MarCA han visitado hoy las instalaciones de Santander Teleport en el Parque Científico y Tecnológico PCTCAN. Se trata de un espacio de 8.500 metros cuadrados, que acoge 26 antenas de comunicación por satélite de gran tamaño capaces de dar servicio de voz y datos a más de 800 embarcaciones de todo el mundo: desde ferries y cruceros, yates y súper yates, a buques oceanográficos, petroleros y plataformas de oil and gas.

El presidente del clúster MarCA, Juan Luis Sánchez, ha subrayado la suerte de contar en nuestra región con esta compañía, única en España y reconocida en 2019 con el Premio al Mejor Telepuerto Independiente del Año por parte de la Asociación Mundial de Telepuertos (World Teleport Association). “Se trata de una instalación singular, de prestigio internacional y que ofrece un servicio esencial en el ámbito marítimo”, matizó Sánchez. Una empresa, cuya actividad trasciende ampliamente las fronteras nacionales y que “supone un complemento exclusivo para enriquecer la oferta de servicios de la industria marítima de Cantabria”.

En ese sentido, Carlos Raba, director general de Santander Teleport, ha añadido que se trata de “un complemento idóneo para que las empresas del sector marítimo de Cantabria puedan ofrecer soluciones de alto valor tecnológico”. En concreto, ha destacado el alto valor añadido que supone un servicio de esta índole para las compañías de transporte marítimo y para los astilleros encargados de instalar en los buques nuevos las antenas y los equipos a través de las cuales el telepuerto da servicio.

Santander Teleport nació en 2010 y forma parte del Grupo ERZIA, socio del clúster MarCA desde el 2018. Esta visita se enmarca dentro de un ciclo de encuentros puesto en marcha por el clúster para conocer tanto a sus integrantes como a otras entidades las diferentes capacidades con las que cuenta el sector azul en la región. De este modo, se facilita la generación de posibles sinergias y proyectos conjuntos entre las entidades cántabras. Anteriormente, los socios de MarCA –que ascienden a 36 a comienzo de 2020– han tenido la oportunidad de visitar otras instalaciones de referencia en Cantabria como las de Astander, el Grupo Fernández Jove, el Grupo FAED y Siemens Gamesa.

Al acto de hoy, que ha consistido en una visita guiada por las oficinas y el parque de antenas de Santander Teleport, han sido invitadas aquellas entidades colaboradoras del clúster interesadas por conocer el pulso de la industria marítima de la región, así como la última tecnología en el sector de las telecomunicaciones tanto comerciales como gubernamentales. De este modo, organismos como la Real Liga Naval Española, el cuerpo de Marina o el de la Policía Nacional han participado en esta actividad de carácter divulgativo.

Santander Teleport es una referencia internacional en el mercado de la tecnología satelital VSAT. Con acceso a la red terrestre global en Santander, el telepuerto cántabro enlaza con satélites a 36.000 kilómetros de distancia y emite señal en diferentes bandas (C, X, Ku y Ka) para poder llegar a los lugares más remotos del planeta.

Entre sus trabajos más destacados, se encuentran los servicios de comunicaciones a los contingentes militares españoles en el extranjero. Así, han dado señal de voz y datos de forma puntual a la fragata Blas de Lezo F100 y le dan señal en la actualidad, por ejemplo, a los científicos de la base antártica española Gabriel de Castilla.

A pesar de tratarse de una empresa con vocación global inherente a su servicio, mantienen cierta implicación con el entorno local, apostando tanto por la formación como por la responsabilidad social. Durante la visita, Raba ha mostrado especial ilusión por su colaboración con la Universidad de Cantabria, a la que han donado una antena marítima de comunicación por satélite y otros equipos con los que los propios ingenieros de Santander Teleport enseñan a los estudiantes de Telecomunicaciones sobre enlaces de comunicaciones por satélite.
